On May 26, a delegation led by Rokhmin Dahuri, President of Universitas UMMI Bogor (UMMI), Indonesia, visited Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (ZCMU). The two sides held in-depth discussions on potential cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) education, clinical practice, and scientific research. Vice President Wu Chengliang attended the meeting and delivered a welcome address. The talks were moderated by Gu Jingjing, Deputy Director of the International Relations Office.

Vice President Wu Chengliang warmly welcomed the UMMI delegation, noting that Indonesia is a key partner in China’s 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative. He emphasized the strategic importance of educational cooperation between the two institutions. Wu commended UMMI’s preliminary proposals to integrate basic TCM knowledge into nursing and midwifery curricula, conduct faculty training, and explore the establishment of TCM-related courses. He expressed ZCMU’s commitment to leveraging its academic strengths to promote the integration of TCM into Indonesia’s healthcare system.

President Rokhmin Dahuri outlined the current development and promising future of TCM in Indonesia. He pointed out that both China and Indonesia have favorable conditions for developing traditional herbal medicine. With the Indonesian government issuing supportive policies in recent years, he believes that TCM—with its hallmarks of simplicity, efficacy, and affordability—can benefit the Indonesian people.

The two sides then held detailed discussions on the feasibility of future collaboration in education, clinical services, and research. Both sides expressed a strong willingness to implement concrete cooperative initiatives. In particular, they plan to rely on UMMI’s affiliated hospital to jointly establish a “TCM Center” that integrates clinical services, talent cultivation, scientific research, and cultural exchange, building a regional platform for TCM development in Indonesia.
